Jumbo Shrimp Weekend Recap

As most followers of The Catch know, we’ve been on a west coast road trip over the weekend that has allowed for little else other than fun and relaxation. And lots of driving. But the weather has been amazing, the people incredibly friendly, and the beers have been tasty.

So today, we provide you with a quick and easy recap of the weekend Jumbo Shrimp games against the vaunted Durham Bulls, along with a look at where things stand in the Triple-A East Southeast as we enter the third week of play.

The Shrimp took two out of three over the weekend in Games 10, 11, and 12. This gave the team a series win over the Bulls which, according to the Shrimp social media team, represents the first time since 2013 that the Shrimp have accomplished this feat. (All the more notable since each series this season is six games long).

The less said about Saturday’s game the better, but Friday and Sunday were definitely great team efforts.

Sunday’s game is notable for the fact that the Shrimp came back from a 3-0 deficit to win going away. A 6-run third inning, paced by Jesús Sánchez’s RBI triple, sealed the win.

The amazing Jesús Sánchez just can’t seem to stop hitting. He’s still batting .500 with a 1.585 OPS after two full weeks of the season. While Sánchez likely will be with the team a little longer, his success has to earn him a call-up at some point. Right?

After two weeks, the Shrimp stand second in the Triple-A East Southeast at 8-4, trailing only Gwinnett in the standings.

Standings at the end of play on May 17, 2021

It’s been a very good two weeks for the Jumbo Shrimp. They head to Norfolk next for a resumption of the Navy Town Showdown. If they keep up the solid play, let’s hope they come back to Jax at the top of the division.
