When I saw this picture on the Facebook Baseball Arts page the other day, it felt like the perfect image to share given the state of the world today.
This poster was created by the U.S. War Production Board around 1942-43. Baseball was at its absolute height of popularity during this time. The metaphor used in the poster would have been self-explanatory given the sport’s place in public consciousness. Its very simple message: give your all and work hard to make a difference in the war effort.
The challenges facing us in 2022 differ from those of 80 years ago – well, a few bear a very striking resemblance – but they require no less of a collective effort to solve.
