The oft heard phrase in baseball is that “good pitching wins games.” In the case of the Jumbo Shrimp, they received great pitching last night as Elieser Hernandez and Nick Neidert combined to shut out the Norfolk Tides 4-0.

Hernandez started for the Shrimp on a rehab assignment. All he did was hold the Tides hitless over three full innings, with four strikeouts and two walks. Nick Neidert tossed the final six innings to pick up the win, scattering six hits and four walks.
At the plate, that legend-in-the-making Jesús Sánchez kickstarted the Shrimp scoring in the fourth inning with an inside-the-park home run. The bottom third of the Shrimp lineup – Marrero, Navarreto, and Bird – was where the offense was generated for most of the evening, as those three tallied six of the eight Shrimp hits on the night.
The Tides didn’t really get much started against the Shrimp pitching duo this evening. Ramón Urias and Brett Cumberland each had two hits. Worse yet for Norfolk, their highly-rated prospect Yusniel Diaz has landed on the 7-day injured list, meaning the Shrimp won’t see him for the rest of the series.
Navy Town Showdown Scoreboard – Jax – 5 Norfolk – 2. Let’s keep it going fellas!
Wednesday’s game is at 6:35 pm. Josh A. Smith will be on the mound for the Shrimp.
