The Jumbo Shrimp came up just a bit short in their first extra-inning game of the season last night, falling to the Norfolk Tides 5-4 in 10 innings.

The Shrimp held a 4-2 lead entering the top of the 9th, but gave up a 2-run home run to Orioles number 8 overall prospect Yusniel Diaz to tie the game at 4 apiece. Norfolk scored in their half of the 10th inning, while Jacksonville stranded the tying run at 3rd base in the bottom of the 10th. Frustrating for sure.

Lewin Diaz and Bryson Brigman led the way for the Shrimp each with 2 hits and 2RBIs. Yusniel Diaz and Brett Cumberland paced the Tides with 2 hits apiece.
On the pitching side, Josh A. Smith was relatively effective over five innings on the mound for the Jumbo Shrimp. Zach Thompson had a blown save in the 9th, while Brett Eibner took the loss in the 10th for the Shrimp. Marcos Diplán got the win in relief for the Tides.
The two sides conclude the six game series this afternoon at 3:05 pm. Let’s hope the Jumbo Shrimp can pull out the series win.
