Opening Day (or Night, as it were) is always a big event. It means even more when it’s the first game after 600+ days. So it’s a pretty safe bet to say that everyone was more than happy to see the Jumbo Shrimp finally back in action last night. It looked like the players were happy to be back as well as they thumped Norfolk 11-5.

Starter Braxton Garrett was pretty effective over his 3.2 innings of work for the Jumbo Shrimp. Lewin Diaz and Jesus Sanchez were the stars at the plate, each going 2 for 5 with a home run.
Game 2 of the series (and season) is an afternoon tilt today with Shawn Morimondo going for the Shrimp. Josh Rogers is on the hill for Norfolk.
Most importantly, in the Navy Town Showdown, Jacksonville takes a 1-0 lead. Thirty-five games to go against Norfolk.
