While searching for some info on the Jumbo Shrimp’s opponents for the upcoming season, I stumbled upon this bit of news this afternoon on the Norfolk Tides website:
“Also new for 2021, the Tides will play a total of 36 games against new Triple-A East opponent Jacksonville. Both historic Navy towns, the season series between the two teams will be known as the Navy Town Showdown presented by GEICO Military. The winner of the season series will be presented with a ship bell trophy in September.”
So, it looks like the games against Norfolk are really going to mean something this season. I look forward to starting off this new rivalry with a win at home on May 4, and then seeing the Jumbo Shrimp loudly ring that ship bell trophy at Harbor Park at the conclusion of the season on September 19!
This is going to be fun.
