Jumbo Shrimp Game 3: The Beat Goes On

In years past, after winning three consecutive games from an opponent, a writer such as myself would loudly trumpet the fact that the Jumbo Shrimp had swept a series from their opponent. Not this year, though. No, it’s going to take six consecutive wins to sweep an opponent in 2021. The good news: the Jumbo Shrimp are halfway there after beating Norfolk last night 7-1 at 121 Financial Ballpark for their third win of the season.

Final score – May 6, 2021

Cody Poteet (a baseball name if there ever was one) was outstanding on the mound earning the win while striking out 10, walking two, and allowing only one earned run. This is the kind of start that makes managers love you and the higher ups give you more attention.

At the plate, the Shrimp were led by catcher Chris Navarreto with a home run, triple, and three RBIs. Monte Harrison was 2 for 5 with a home run, and of course, Jesús Sánchez continued his hot start going 2 for 3 with a walk. (It’s really something when you go 2 for 3 and your average actually goes DOWN, but hey, that’s baseball.)

Rylan Bannon led the way for the Tides with a home run, one of only three hits for Norfolk on the night.

The teams are back at it this evening at 7:05 pm at 121 Financial Ballpark. Nick Neidert starts for the Jumbo Shrimp.

Navy Town Showdown Scoreboard: Jax – 3, Norfolk – Nil.
