Beloit Snappers at Burlington Bees – Community Field, Burlington, IA – July 31, 2018 – I decided at the last minute to make the drive from Chicago to Burlington, Iowa in order to see a midweek game at this charming park. It did not disappoint. My family has a long history in Iowa, so I felt right at home with the folks in the crowd. And you simply cannot beat the midwestern sky at dusk. It is gorgeous. Baseball road trips like this one, especially at the spur of the moment, are the best.
It still makes me sad that MLB decided to omit Burlington from MiLB after its takeover of the minor leagues. Fans in towns like Burlington, with decades of baseball history, need to see the MLB stars of tomorrow playing for affiliated teams. It is absolutely necessary to help grow baseball in this country. The Bees will be playing in the Prospect League from the 2021 season, and we wish them all the best.
