Today We Honor Jackie Robinson

Today is Jackie Robinson Day across the baseball world. It celebrates the anniversary of the day that Jackie first appeared for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier. He is rightly regarded as a trailblazer, both for his skill as a player and as an example of courage and steadfast calm in the face of the vituperative attacks he faced on a regular basis. Here’s to you No. 42. May your legacy continue to inspire the cause of racial equality throughout our society for generations to come.
