The Jumbo Shrimp held a big press conference this afternoon to announce a number of big ticket items as we quickly approach Opening Day on May 4. While we weren’t there to witness it ourselves – maybe next year, eh? – we are more than happy to help spread the news to the fanbase.
First off, the Jumbo Shrimp announced a five-year deal for FIS to become the presenting sponsor of the Jumbo Shrimp. This broadens and deepens the existing relationship between the club and FIS, and will see FIS donate a penny from all transactions at 121 Financial Ballpark (up to $10,000) to local charitable causes in Jacksonville.
Next, the club announced that the majority of its games will be broadcast on local ESPN radio outlet ESPN690. While all of the games will be available on MiLB.com, it is fantastic that the Shrimp will be available on a large over-the-air station. Now, let’s hope that ESPN690 takes time out of its schedule to do a pre-game show, post-game recap, and some chat shows about the Jumbo Shrimp. The club deserves that. (And hey, if you all need an another analyst, give me a call!)
Finally, the promotions for the season were announced, and let me tell ya, the best promo crew in MiLB brought their A game once again. There will be 19 Fireworks Nights and Saturday promo giveaways all season long, including bobbleheads, t-shirts, hats, and backpacks. There is much, much more, and the complete list of promos can be found here on the Jumbo Shrimp website.
The club also announced that capacity will be at 45% to begin the season, or roughly 5,000 people.
