The best tournament in international baseball starts today! Yes, that’s right, the Serie del Caribe (Caribbean Series) begins this afternoon in Mexicali, Mexico.
For those who might not know, the Caribbean Series features the champions of the Big Four winter baseball leagues – Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela – along with a number of specially invited teams to make the tournament more interesting. In past years, we’ve seen teams from Cuba, Nicaragua, and Panama. This year, the guest team is from Japan. (I wish Cuba was playing too. Just great to see their players)
I seriously love watching this tournament. It’s great baseball and unbridled passion for the sport that you just don’t see during the summer in MLB or MiLB.
